Product Spotlight: Photyzyme DNA Youth Recovery Serum

Photozyme MD is a professional skin care line that focuses on innovative and proprietary technology and products to enhance skin health. While there are other DNA repair products on the market, Photozyme MD has developed a proprietary enzyme technology that includes 3 types of DNA enzymes. Other products only have 1 or 2 types of enzymes.
What is DNA Enzyme Technology?
- Plant-derived enzymes mimic the body’s natural response to repair damaged skin cells
- Enzymes are encapsulated in a proprietary liposome, which delivers the enzymes where they need to go to work, stimulating the bodies natural process to repair
- The enzymes search and adhere to the damaged DNA strand only
- The cell’s natural process takes over, extracting the damage and replicating a healthy DNA strand
What are the key DNA Repair Enzymes in Photozyme MD?
Photolyase (Anacystis nidulans)
- Light activated enzyme (from the sun) derived from algae/plankton
- Directly removes underlying cell damage caused by UV rays from the sun
Endonuclease (Micrococcus luteus)
- UV resistant microbe
- Initiates direct removal of underlying cell damage caused by UV rays from the sun
Glycosylase (Arabidopsis thaliana)
- Small flowering plant native to Eurasia
- Detects UV-B light and mediates response to this DNA damaging wavelength
Why are DNA repair enzymes essential for healthy skin?
When your skin is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, your skin cells become damaged. In fact, the sun is responsible for approximately 80% of the damage we see on our skin. Your body can only repair about 50% of the damage in a 24 hour period. The DNA repair enzymes help your body repair the other 50% of damaged skin cells. If the skin cells are not properly repaired, they will eventually reach the surface of your skin in the form of wrinkles, age spots, hyperpigmentation etc. So it is essential to use DNA repair enzymes to help prevent damaged skin cells from reaching the surface of the skin and ensure cells are healthy by the time they reach the skin’s surface.
DNA repair products are fundamental to skin health
In the April 2014 Journal of Drugs In Dermatology, leading dermatologists presented a clinically based guide to selecting topical skincare products. They created what is known as the Skin Health and Beauty Pyramid. The skincare products that are fundamental to overall skin health (the bottom of the pyramid) are sunscreens, antioxidants, and DNA repair enzymes. This means that retinols (middle of pyramid, products that transform) peptides and growth factors (top of the pyramid, products to optimize) will not be as effective without a solid foundation in your skincare routine that includes sunscreen, antioxidants and DNA repair enzymes.
Sunscreen alone is not enough.
The effects of using sunscreen have been studied, based on stand alone and with photolyase (an enzyme in Photozyme MD products). Sunscreen in combination with photolyase reduces sun damage by 93%, compared to 62% reduction with sunscreen alone.
