Collagen Banking: The Ultimate Guide to Keeping Your Skin Youthful

Collagen Banking: The Ultimate Guide to Keeping Your Skin Youthful If you’re serious about maintaining youthful, plump skin for as long as possible, then you’ve probably heard about collagen banking. This skincare buzzword is making waves in the beauty industry, and for good reason. But what exactly is collagen banking, and how can you start preserving your skin’s most important structural protein? This article covers everything you need to know about collagen banking—from the best treatments to skincare and supplements that keep your skin looking fresh and firm. What is Collagen? Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and the foundation of healthy, youthful skin. It provides structure, elasticity, and strength to the skin, keeping it firm and smooth. Unfortunately, collagen production starts to decline in your mid-20s, leading to visible signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. Environmental factors like UV exposure, pollution, and lifestyle choices (such as smoking and poor diet) can accelerate collagen breakdown, making proactive collagen preservation crucial. What is Collagen Banking? Collagen banking is the process of preserving and stimulating collagen production early to maintain skin elasticity and slow down the visible signs of aging. Instead of trying to reverse wrinkles and loss of volume later, collagen banking focuses on preventing them in the first place. Think of it as a long-term investment for your skin—just like saving for retirement, but for your face! By taking steps to boost collagen before it starts depleting, you can keep your skin looking youthful for longer. When Should You Start Collagen Banking? The earlier, the better! Experts recommend starting collagen banking in your mid-to-late 20s when natural collagen production begins to slow. However, it’s never too late to start to still see improvement. The key is consistency—implementing collagen-stimulating treatments, skincare, and supplements into your routine will make a noticeable difference over time. How to Collagen Bank with Treatments Professional treatments are one of the most effective ways to boost collagen production. Here are some of the top collagen-stimulating procedures: Microneedling Microneedling creates micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing response and boosting collagen production. When paired with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), the results are even more impressive. Laser Resurfacing Fractional lasers like CO2 and Fraxel stimulate collagen by removing damaged skin layers and encouraging new, firmer skin to grow. These treatments also help with skin texture and hyperpigmentation. Radiofrequency (RF) Treatments RF devices like Thermage and Morpheus8 use heat to tighten skin and stimulate collagen deep within the dermis. These are great for lifting and firming without downtime. Ultrasound Therapy (Ultherapy) Ultherapy uses ultrasound energy to penetrate deep into the skin, kickstarting collagen production and improving skin laxity over time. Chemical Peels Medium to deep chemical peels (like TCA or glycolic acid peels) help accelerate cell turnover, which in turn stimulates collagen production for smoother, more radiant skin. TIP: some of these professional treatments can be done at home safely. See these articles for more information. Microneedling 101: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/microneedling-101-a-step-by-step-protocol/ Chemical Peels: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/product-spotlight-platinum-skin-care/ How to Collagen Bank with Skincare While professional treatments can fast-track collagen production, a solid skincare routine is essential for maintaining your results. Look for these collagen-boosting ingredients: Retinoids (Retinol, Tretinoin, Retinaldehyde) Retinoids (vitamin A) are clinically proven to increase collagen production by stimulating skin cell turnover and improving texture. Prescription-strength tretinoin is the most potent, but over-the-counter retinol is a great starting point. Check out this article for details on retinoids: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/retinoids-101 Vitamin C A powerful antioxidant, vitamin C protects collagen from environmental damage and helps in collagen synthesis. Use a 15-20% L-ascorbic acid serum for best results. Tip: my go to is Vitamin CE + Ferulic Acid Lotion as it includes DNA repair enzymes that reverse damage. use link for a discount: Photozyme MD | Anti-Aging Skincare Peptides Peptides are the building blocks of collagen and elastin. Look for copper peptides, Matrixyl, and Argireline in your skincare products to support collagen production. Hyaluronic Acid While hyaluronic acid doesn’t directly boost collagen, it keeps skin hydrated and plump, making fine lines less noticeable. Well-hydrated skin is more resilient and better at producing collagen. Here’s the one I’ve been using for years: https://amzn.to/3QAqV5p SPF (Sunscreen!) UV rays break down collagen faster than anything else, so wearing a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily is non-negotiable for collagen preservation. Tip: This tinted SPF blends beautifully on most skin types and includes DNA repair enzymes to reverse damage: https://amzn.to/4hAFz8t How to Supplement for Collagen Banking Skincare and treatments help from the outside, but supplementing internally can maximize your collagen production. Here are the best supplements for collagen banking: Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides Collagen supplements, especially hydrolyzed collagen peptides, have been shown to improve skin elasticity and hydration. Look for Type I and III collagen, ideally from marine or bovine sources. This new marine collagen peptide includes verisol – a bioactive hydrolized collagen to target skin, as well as Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid – triple win! Visit: https://amzn.to/3F8etXL Vitamin C Since vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis, taking it alongside collagen peptides enhances absorption and effectiveness. Hyaluronic Acid Supplements Hyaluronic acid helps keep skin hydrated, which is essential for maintaining collagen structure. Zinc & Copper These trace minerals play a crucial role in collagen formation. A balanced diet or a high-quality supplement can ensure you’re getting enough. How to Keep Your Skin Healthy Beyond treatments, skincare, and supplements, lifestyle habits play a huge role in collagen preservation. Follow these tips to maintain healthy, youthful skin: Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water to keep skin plump and resilient. Eat a Collagen-Boosting Diet – Focus on protein-rich foods (grass fed beef, fish, chicken, eggs), leafy greens, berries, and nuts. Limit Sugar & Processed Foods – Sugar causes glycation, which damages collagen and accelerates aging. Prioritize Sleep – Your skin repairs itself overnight, so aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep. Manage Stress – Chronic stress increases cortisol, which breaks down collagen. Try meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises. Avoid Smoking & Excessive Alcohol

Top 7 Products for Hair Loss

Top 7 Products for Hair Loss In honor of hair loss awareness month, I’ve been testing out products to achieve better hair growth results. Below are 7 products to recommend of those products tested. With recent research on shampoo frequency and the effects of less shampooing on your scalp and hair follicle health, my routine has changed as well. Instead of shampooing my hair 2-3 times a week, I shampoo every other day to keep my scalp clean and healthy, and hair follicles free of excess oil and build up to promote hair growth. Advanced Trichology Shampoo https://bestbeautyhacks.com/dhtshampoo This shampoo has more of a gel consistency and it took me a few tries to feel like my hair was clean, but I do really like this shampoo as a scalp cleanse and to calm inflammation. DHT Blocker Supplement https://bestbeautyhacks.com/dhtblocker Approved by the American Hair Loss Association, this formulation includes 26 essential vitamins and herbs for optimal hair growth, as well as supports skin, thyroid and liver detox. Obagi Nu Cil eye brow serum https://bestbeautyhacks.com/obagibrowserum Full disclaimer: This brow growth serum does contain prostaglandins. The concern with prostaglandins in a brow serum is the orbital fat loss, but with the brow being on or above the orbital bone, the risk seems fairly low. I’ve been testing this product for 4 months and haven’t noticed any adverse effects, but it is my top pick for brow regrowth. Lash Serums It is extremely important (IMHO) to not use a lash serum with prostaglandins for the many serious side effects. This doesn’t leave you many options. These are the 2 products that I’ve found that work, with the AnteAge the preferred option: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/anteagelashserum This product contains 12 stem cell growth factor cytokines proven to increase lash growth, as well as several peptides. This is a more expensive option, but a very high quality formulation. https://revivserums.com/BESTBEAUTYHACKS Reviv Lash and Brow Stimulating Serum. While this product doesn’t have the growth factor cytokines, it does contain peptides which are also shown to improve lash growth. This product tends to be less expensive as well. Higher Dose LED cap Red Light Hat (higherdose.com) This is a very new product, and I’m so excited for the results! I’ve researched LED for hair growth for several years, and this product uses 650nm red light wavelength which is the precise wavelength for optimal hair growth. It’s easy to use with only 10 minutes a day, convenient as it’s battery operated, and so stylish (baseball cap) you can even do a treatment on the go. Joovv Go Joovv Official Site This is a great LED therapy as well, with optimal wavelength. It’s also portable and can be used anywhere on your body for additional benefits. I’ve used the Joovv Go for so many years on so many things. Not only hair and skin, but tendon and ligament recovery as well as nerve damage from surgery. I won’t be without this device. Top 7 Products for June

Top 7 Products for June Purity Coffee I rediscovered this coffee this month after initially trying it during quarantine. I didn’t really drink coffee back then, but I’ve learned to appreciate it more recently. What I love about this brand is, it’s organic, free of mold, toxins, contaminants, and it’s sustainable. And tastes delicious! Your first order with this link gets you 20% off. PurityCoffee.com and enter code BESTBEAUTYHACKS20 Cod liver oil https://bestbeautyhacks.com/codliveroil I’ve been wanting to add fish oil back in my diet for the omega 3 as I don’t consume salmon in my diet as much anymore. But after researching, I decided to go with cod liver oil as it has the benefits of fish oil plus vitamins A and D. And it helps clear up acne congestion systemically, as I’ve also had persistent congestion in patches on my face that I haven’t been able to clear up. I’ve been taking this for the last 2 months and I’m thrilled to confirm that my skin cleared up within 6 weeks, so this will continue to be a part of my daily intake. Magnesium L-Threonate https://bestbeautyhacks.com/magltheorate I’m currently taking L-threonate for brain fog and focus, and I found this liposomal delivery which encapsulates the magnesium to get through the digestive system so it’s absorbed more efficiently. For more information on magnesium, check out: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/understanding-magnesium/ Magnesium spray https://bestbeautyhacks.com/magspray This has helped boost my magnesium levels at night to eliminate the leg and feet cramps that happen during the night and the lavender scent helps to relax and sleep better. Hair fibers https://bestbeautyhacks.com/hairfibers https://bestbeautyhacks.com/fiberapplicator I’ve tried so many products to cover gray between treatments, and they usually don’t have good coverage and are always messy. This product is made of natural keratin fibers that are statically charged to blend with your hair for a natural look. It’s wind, rain and sweat proof, and washes out easily with shampoo. The applicator is optional, but helps with precise application. Collagen for skin and bone https://thepauselife.com/products/skin-bone-collagen?variant=44464049094895 You have probably heard of Dr. Mary Claire Haver, an OBGYN who specializes in menopause. If you aren’t familiar with her, consider looking her up – she is a wealth of information on the topic of menopause: https://thepauselife.com This collagen is from her product line, and she’s combined specific collagens to supplement skin and bone mineral density as we age. Osmosis Skincare EPIC Skin Tool https://bestbeautyhacks.com/EPICskintool This tool surprised me! It’s great for lymph drainage and depuffing, but also product penetration. It’s easy to use and it actually feels really good. Hopefully these recommendations are useful and beneficial for you. Protocol to regrow hair naturally

Protocol to regrow hair naturally Have you noticed your hair thinning for no good reason? It could be caused by environmental stressors. We are all inundated constantly by environmental toxins and free radicals. And while it’s near impossible to avoid these toxins, there are ways to lessen the effects they have on our bodies. Below is a protocol to not only help you regrow and strengthen your hair, but this protocol also helps improve your skin and detox/balance your gut for overall health as well. 1. Drink filtered/alkaline water only. All day, every day. Did you know that disease (like cancers) and illnesses in general can not grow or survive in an alkaline state? Alkaline water also reduces inflammation and neutralizes acid in your blood stream. 2. Boil 2 cups of filtered water with a hand full of organic raisins. Drink a cup first thing in the morning before anything else, and then the rest of it throughout the day. This is to flush the liver and blood of toxins. This also helps the skin and brain function. Do this 4 days a week. Why raisins, you may ask? Have you heard of Resveratrol? Resveratrol is a naturally occurring plant polyphenol compound found in grape skins that is a very powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and blood cholesterol lowering properties. It is highly beneficial in maintaining skin and hair health, as well as improving the body’s ability to produce red blood cells. Resveratrol is especially concentrated in raisins since they are dried grapes. Organic is key so that you’re not ingesting pesticides and other chemicals. Here’s a good option: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/raisins 3. Add half a lemon and a tiny pinch of salt to at least 3 cups of water intake a day – you don’t have to add this to all the water you drink in a day, but it’s important to incorporate this into some of the water you drink each day. Lemon has beneficial phytonutrients, and works with the natural energetic charge of the body, to cleanse and detox, with anti-aging effects. The salt adds necessary trace minerals. Be sure to use REAL Himalayan salt (not pink colored salt) or Celtic flake salt to get the necessary benefits. Hair Loss Remedies

Hair Loss Remedies Hair Loss Remedies Did you know, two-thirds of men will experience some type of hair loss, and 40% of Americans who experience hair loss are women. With these alarming statistics, you may be someone who is concerned about or dealing with some type of hair loss condition on an ongoing basis. Thankfully, there is a lot of research being done in this area which brings new information and understanding, as well as products and methods to consider. Hair growth methods Inversion method While this isn’t new, I have gotten good results with it. Basically, you bend over so your head is below your heart to get the blood to flow to your head. Then you stimulate circulation for about 5 minutes by massaging your head with your fingers or brushing your hair. Do this every evening for one week of the month. It’s not recommended to do this more than a week out of the month. For an additional bonus, add rosemary oil (mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba) or rosemary water as you massage, as it increases blood circulation. It’s said that you can increase your hair growth by 1-2 inches a month with this method. While I don’t know if that’s true, it definitely grew faster than normal. The inversion method is not recommended if you have any of the following: Are pregnant High blood pressure Heart disease Vertigo Ear infection Spinal injury Detached retina Microneedle scalp/PRP I am a big fan of microneedling for face and scalp. But I will only use either a stamp or a microneedle pen. I won’t use a roller because it causes micro tears that could cause scarring. Pro tip: Using microneedling treatment in combination with a hair growth serum has been shown to improve hair growth better than with a hair growth serum alone. The microneedling treatment on your scalp allows the hair serum to penetrate deeper. Any time you are microneedling, whether your face or scalp, be very mindful of what serum you use. The ingredients will penetrate and could cause an adverse reaction. I would recommend the following scalp stamp as it has titanium needles (stainless needles can bend causing tears and scarring) from a well known, reputable brand, and has a dial to adjust the needle depth. I have 2 serum recommendations: Minoxidil 5% (see below comments in the products section) and a hair serum that is vegan and plant based if that is your preference. Scalp stamp https://bestbeautyhacks.com/scalpstamp Minoxidil 5% https://bestbeautyhacks.com/minoxidil Vegamour hair serum https://bestbeautyhacks.com/hairserum PRP microneedle for scalp needs to be done by a doctor in an office, as it requires a blood draw that then separates the platelets and is injected into the scalp along with the microneedling of the scalp. I haven’t done this myself as I understand it is quite uncomfortable, but I know people who have rare hair loss issues and done this with great results. Light therapy This method is getting rave reviews, but it does require consistency! There are several types of light therapy options: NIR (near infrared), red, LED, etc. used with rosemary oil(mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba) or rosemary water massaged in first provides added benefits. IRestore uses medical grade lasers and LED lights, FDA approved and clinically proven to regrow hair: https://bestbeautyhacks.com/IRestore Hair products to improve health and growth I’ve struggled with hair loss from stress and hormones for years, but only recently realized the damage from chemicals and minerals in water when I moved to a different state. Another more recent discovery is the need to specifically treat your scalp to encourage follicle health. These products address hair loss and hair health from all angles and have helped my hair recover from a severely thin, damaged and fragile state. As a side note: if you have trouble with recurring hair loss that doesn’t seem to be hereditary, it could be a medical issue like thyroid or leaky gut/absorption. The only topical product that has been scientifically proven to regrow hair is Minoxidil. It comes in a foam, serum and a supplement (need a prescription). It also comes in different strengths; 5% for men and 2% for women. If you are a woman past childbearing age, you can use the 5% for men (my dermatologist confirmed). As with most things, it only works as long as you use it. Once you stop, you will lose the hair you gained. I would recommend the serum over the foam product. The foam is messy and makes your hair look and feel dirty and greasy. I don’t wash my hair every day, so this for me is not an option. The serum is better, not as messy and your hair doesn’t look as dirty right away. It will still cause your hair to feel sticky/dirty, just not as quickly as the foam. Try to find a way to apply precisely to the scalp, maybe with a Q-tip so it’s not all over your hair. The major downside of this product in general is it fades your color. I have premature gray so coloring my hair is a necessity at this point, and anything that works against this for me is a deal breaker. If this isn’t an issue for you, then I would recommend. Costco used to carry the serum, but some stores
